Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences
Last week we were pleased to return to conducting the traditional Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences at Newcomb Secondary College. It was fantastic to see so many families take the opportunity to meet with teachers to discuss and celebrate the progress and growth of their student. The rich discussions also provided the opportunity to set goals and targets to enable future progress and added growth. Teachers at Newcomb Secondary College provide feedback to our parents and guardians on their students progress and welcome and acknowledge your active involvement in supporting them. After all, student growth is best achieved when there is an active and supportive team around the student.
If you were unable to make the Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences last week, and would like to chat with your child's classroom teachers, please make contact with your student’s teachers through Compass to arrange a suitable time and method to have a discussion.
ANZAC Day Assembly
The 2021 ANZAC day assembly held on Monday 26th April , was run entirely by our Student Leaders.
Hailey Rickard opened the event with an explanation of the significance of ANZAC day before handing over to Elliot Nicholas for our inaugural “Spotlight on ANZACs in history”.
This will see Newcomb Secondary College focus on different wars, peacekeeping operations and emergencies which the Australian armed forces have been involved in. Our hope is to acknowledge the many who have served and sometimes died whilst serving in many places and times for Australia.
This year, Elliot focused on the Vietnam war, giving a brief insight into the contentiousness of this conflict and concluding with a biographical quote of a digger urging people to keep separate their political opinions of a conflict and those who serve. Paige Bower concluded the ceremony with the Ode to the Fallen followed by a minute of silence.
Jake Baker and Ian Crowther provided the Last Post and Rouse on trumpet.

Melbourne Zoo
MELBOURNE ZOO VISIT
WEDNESDAY 21 APRIL
There were 63 of our Year 9 science students who had a wonderful Melbourne Zoo experience.
They worked independently to navigate and explore their way through eight walking trails containing more than 5120 animals from all around the world. This exciting experience brought them close up to animals that included Leopards, Giraffes, Zebras, Elephants, Lima, Gorillas, Seals, Penguins, Snakes, Lizards and Butterflies.
For many this was an experience that will be remembered for a lifetime.

P-TECH Bulletin
We love it when our industry partners support us in lots of different ways.
Recently a number of students had a one week opportunity of work experience in a workplace related to a future career plan they may have.
Australian Laboratory Services kindly supported Eliza for her work experience week.
Eliza had the opportunity to work in the Microbiology Laboratory where she prepared the samples to be analysed for E.coli and Coliforms in water. She also read the samples in the trays prepared the day previous. This was done by observing under the UV light to see if any E.coli/Coliforms had been detected.
Once again we would like to thank ALS for their ongoing support of our students.
New Staff Member
Hi everyone,
I am thrilled to be joining the Newcomb Secondary College within the Wellbeing Support Team as a Social Worker. This is my first time working in a school environment.
I completed my Social Work studies in Adelaide in 2014 and have been working in Mental Health with Bendigo Health for the past 6 years. I have recently moved to the Geelong area and am very excited to live near the ocean. I have keen interests in horse riding, hiking, snorkelling and cooking.
I have felt very welcomed by Newcomb Secondary through my first week and look forward to meeting more of the students and staff throughout the rest of the year.
