Values For Life
By Year 94 Students
On February the 19th, Sharon and Tim from Values for Life, visited our school to talk to us about identity, acceptance, goals and resilience. To begin with, year nine classes joined together to make one group and was introduced to Tim. Tim summarised what we would be doing throughout the day, and taught us a few new games. Tim spoke to all of us about challenging ourselves and moving past our mistakes.
Then, we split off into two groups - Females and Males to talk about different issues for different genders and breaking down stereotypes. Sharon spoke to the female group, whilst Tim spoke to the male group. Sharon spoke to us about beauty standards that the media portrays to us. She told us, it was okay to be insecure, but we should not worry too much about how we look. She told us now a days, teenage girls are exposed to unrealistic stereotypes and gave us strategies to challenge these. Sharon also talked to us about acceptance, and how our bad days can be made so much worse by the behaviour of others, but we have choices as to how we take this on board.
