From the Principal Team
Welcome to Term 2
We hope that everyone had an enjoyable two week break. Yesterday we had a short assembly to welcome everyone back and an ANZAC Commemoration to reset ourselves for the start of a new term.
End of Term Progress Report
Later this week students will have their Term 1 reports shared with them on Compass. As outlined in our previous Newsletter, the aim of the new look progress reports was to provide a report product that was easy to read and aligned more cohesively with all learning models here at Newcomb Secondary College, namely our School Values of Learning/Respect and Working Together, the Positive Futures Framework and our School Wide Positive Behaviour focus.
The areas of focus on the reports will be:
Learning
- Prepared for Learning- Attends class prepared for, and able to, engage in their learning.
- Participation and Completion- Participates effectively and completes required tasks to the best of their ability.
Respect
- Demonstrates Regard for Others- Demonstrates regard for all members of the school community (peers, teachers, mentors, wellbeing, office staff)
- Demonstrates Self-awareness- Demonstrates awareness of their person, those around them and how to coexist in the world. Can self-regulate when necessary.
Working Together
- Collaborates with others- Is able to collaborate with peers, teachers, mentors and their learning community to achieve successful learning and project outcomes.
- Communicates effectively- Demonstrates written, verbal, digital and other communication skills for the effective transfer and receipt of information.
We look forward to sharing our new look Reports with you later this week.
PST Interviews- Thursday April 28 (4-7pm) & Friday April 29 (9-12pm)
In the first week of Term 2, we will be conducting our Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences. The sessions available for the conferences are Thursday April 28 (4-7pm) and Friday April 29 (9-12pm). Conferences will take place in the Language Centre at Newcomb Secondary College and we encourage you all to take part in the conversations.
Parents and Guardians will be able to select a suitable time for bookings on Compass as of now.
The P/S/T conferences are an important part of supporting student learning outcomes as it is well understood that a student will achieve most, and maximise their potential when supported by a team. As such, it is important that all members of a student team have a shared understanding of where their learning is at and what can be actioned to make further improvements/further growth.

P-Tech
It was “meet and greet” day recently for one of our P-TECH students Cooper who is studying a Certificate III in IT. As part of his course Cooper has a regular work placement at Geelong Technology Group (GTG).
Thank you to Trevor who showed Cooper around the workshop and introduced him to the technicians he will be lucky enough to work with.
It was also great to be welcomed by a familiar face when we arrived - former P-TECH IT student and current employee Damien Bowers who is continuing with further studies through a traineeship at GTG.
Thanks Geelong Technology Group for your ongoing support of the P-TECH Program.

I’m writing to provide you with an update regarding the Andrews Labor Government’s Get Active Kids Program. Families can now apply for $200 Get Active Kids voucher online which can then be redeemed at a registered Get Active Kids Voucher Activity Provider – such as a local sporting club or organisation. Registered activity providers will lodge voucher codes with the Government to be credited the costs of registration and/or membership fees, while vouchers can also be used for costs associated with uniforms and equipment. Clubs, associations and organisations must be registered as a Get Active Kids Voucher Activity Provider to be able to redeem vouchers. To be eligible they must be affiliated with a recognised State Sporting Association or equivalent governing body. The program is open to Victorian children aged up to 18, named on a valid Commonwealth Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card and named on a valid Medicare Card at the time of application. A special consideration stream is also available to support children in care, temporary or provisional visa holders, undocumented migrants and international students up to 18 years at the time of application. Applications for this round close at 5pm on 31 May 2022. To support the transition to the new voucher claim system, families can continue to claim reimbursement for expenses already incurred in this round. To apply or for more information visit the program website https://getactive.vic.gov.au/vouchers/. I encourage all schools to circulate this important opportunity with their contacts in our community. My office is happy to assist interested families with any further queries, and can be reached on 5221 4821 at christine.couzens@parliament.vic.gov.au |
