Sports Update
On the 17th and 24th of February 2022 Newcomb Secondary held our annual House Swimming and Athletics Carnivals. The participation from all students attending was fantastic to see, particularly after having missed out on our Swimming Carnival in 2021. In particular there were some fantastic individual efforts, with Year 8 Shayla Maimuir who continued to participate in different events for her house, even when she was absolutely exhausted. We had Presley Johannesen in Year 12 and Phoebe Cobb in Year 10 partake in 11 and 10 Athletic Events respectively. Year 7 Spencer Fairthorne, Year 10 Cody Englert & Year 9 Nick Maultby all competed in 9 athletic events on the day. It was also fantastic to see great participation from students in our novelty events, such as the three legged race, egg and spoon race, raft race and lilo race.
Some of the highlights from our carnivals included seeing so many staff and students get into the spirit of the carnival, with different wigs, coloured zinc cream, blow up suits, and an NSC FIRST, with our NSC athletics Tik Tok. A big thank you to Phoebe Cobb for organising this, and please look out for this on our NSC Social media pages.
We operated in a different fashion to previous carnivals, with the addition of our COVID Marshalls, Kea, Jo & Crystal. A big thank you to your team for keeping us safe with hand sanitizer and ensuring social distancing where possible. Year 11 Cooper Rowbottom & Year 11 Eliza Glembin were also instrumental in the day’s success, distributing food and drinks to our staff on the track and field, which I know they greatly appreciated.
Finally, a big thankyou to all our teachers and support staff, for all your work at the carnivals. It made the day a great experience for our students, other staff and our school community.
