College Council
The June meeting of the College Council took place last Thursday 16th June evening. Among the items discussed were the new Education Enterprise Bargaining Agreement and the completion of the College Facilities Master Plan. Council also took time to look at the new Auditorium and discuss its potential for all Newcomb Secondary College programs.
Pupil Free Days
On Thursday and Friday of Week 8, almost every member of the Newcomb Secondary College staff participated in a valuable professional learning experience hosted by the Berry Street School.
The Berry Street Educational Model (BSEM) enables educators to focus on the promotion of enhanced student learning outcomes, through building rich interpersonal connections in a way which is informed by understandings of positive psychology.
Across both days, our staff developed greater understandings of strengths-based goalsetting processes, of neuro-plasticity and of how as a school community we can collectively work towards nurturing the growth of motivated, aspirational and resilient young learners.
On behalf of the whole school, and all of the members of staff who participated in the event, thank you to our parents and carers for their support of this rich and informative opportunity. Additionally, thank you to our colleagues at the Barwon Adolescent Task Force (BATForce) for their role in making this professional learning experience possible. Finally, thank you to Cathy Walsh for her generous catering over both days.
