How This Term’s Focus Areas Appear In Our School Wide Positive Behaviour.
In the first assembly of the term, our Acting Principal Mr. McLeod outlined our focus areas for the term. Our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support team eagerly leapt upon these, seeing the similarities with our SWPBS values and behavior descriptors. Below are the connections they have made.
1. Be here every day. - Arrive to class on-time and remain in the classroom for the entirety of each session.
Is our SWPBS’ “I am punctual.”
2. Be prepared for Learning – Both with the correct learning materials and a positive attitude towards learning.
Is our SWPBS’ “I am punctual, with my diary and equipment ready to learn.”
3. Present proudly – Including wearing the correct uniform.
Is our SWPBS’ “I wear my school uniform correctly”.
4. Bringing a positive attitude and proactive behavior.
Is our SWPBS’ “I am a positive team member” and “I support the learning of others” to every class."
5. Complete all set tasks to the best of your ability.
Is our SWPBS’ “I ask questions when I don’t understand” and “I make the most of all learning opportunities”.
6. Build and maintain positive relationships with all members of the college community.
Is our SWPBS’ 'I value other people's differences'.
7. Proactive and responsible conflict resolution strategies.
Is our SWPBS’ “I am kind to others” and “I keep unkind words and thoughts to myself.”
8. Maintain your wellbeing – Physical and mental. Identify and use your coping strategies and seek support if needed.
Is our SWPBS’“I maintain a high standard of personal hygiene.” and “I improve my skills and health by being active.”
9. Be a positive role model for Newcomb Secondary College when in the community.
Is our SWPBS’ “I am proud of my school.”
10. Enjoy your school experience. It is a very important time in your life, one that goes very quickly, and one that you should look back upon fondly in the future. We don’t have a single statement to link to this focus area, but that makes it no less important.
