Staff Professional Learning and Pupil Free Days
This week staff at Newcomb Secondary College will be participating in a whole school professional learning experience, focusing on the Berry Street Educational Model.
This event will consist of two Professional Learning Days, on Thursday, November 18th and
Friday, November 19th.
NO STUDENTS WILL BE REQUIRED AT SCHOOL ON THESE DAYS.
This event was originally approved by School Council in Term 1, and was to take place during Term 2. However, it was postponed due to our consecutive transitions in and out of lockdown. The training itself has been made possible through the College’s partnership with the Barwon Adolescent Taskforce (BATForce), and consists of these two days in 2021, and then a further two days of professional learning in 2022.
This opportunity will provide all of our staff with valuable knowledge and expertise. Ultimately, it will serve to strengthen our collective practice and enable for even more positive learning experiences and outcomes for our students. Thank you for your understanding and support of this process.
Remembrance Day
At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month the students of Newcomb Secondary College held a virtual Remembrance Day Ceremony. This ceremony was conducted by our two new school captains for 2022, Baillie Mayberry and Presley Johannesen. Presley informed staff and students of the significance of the ceremony before Baillie read John McCrae’s In Flanders Fields followed by the Ode to the Fallen. After a silent minute, the ceremony was concluded.
College Council
The November meeting of the Newcomb Secondary College Council will take place this Thursday evening in the Food Technology area.

Bush Camp
Last week our Outdoor Education students went on a 3-day bush camp set in the Brisbane Ranges.
This included walking the Burchell Trail (some 40km long); around old mining settlements; and the mountains and valley of Anakie Gorge.
Students learned to cook, carry everything including tents, food and clothing.
Thanks to everyone who helped and congratulations to all who pushed themselves outside their comfort zone.
