Big Summer Read Campaign - Year 7 & 8
Students were delighted when voice artist and actor Stig Wemyss presented the “Big Summer Read Campaign” to year 7 and 8 students at Newcomb Secondary last week.
Stig, the voice artist for the popular Andy Griffiths audio books, had the students and staff in stitches with his animated antics and engaging presentation.
Newcomb Secondary College was honoured to be selected to host the event.
The Big Summer read campaign, an event run by Public Libraries Victoria (PLV), with the assistance of Borrowbox, encourages students to join, borrow and read as many books as they can over the school holidays.
There are awesome prizes to be won. Students received a free tote bag with information on the event and school holiday activities being run at the Local Libraries.
Let’s get involved!
A big thanks to Stig, Christine from Public Libraries Victoria and Laura from the Newcomb Library for running the event.

Yesterday was so funny it made me giggle. I liked it when Stig gets people to volunteer and get wet, and all he does is make funny jokes and people throw stuff like socks. Even Spencer threw his shoe which made everyone laugh, it made it very entertaining and I couldn't stop thinking how much energy he had and how much fun everyone had. It was too funny not to dream about. When he did a barrel roll at the start and when Jamie got sprayed and then he got a free Audiobook to listen to the '100 Storey Treehouse'.

Stig was so funny and weird, he wet a kid with his drink bottle and he made funny sounds and jokes, and he made funny sign up sheets that had weird questions and you had to make your voice funny to answer them. People were throwing things at him and he made the people go to the front of the room and do a curtsy and he gave some recordings of the Tree House stories to some people and that is what I liked about it!

Yesterday, it was the Big Summer Read, and there was a narrator that came to the Big Summer Read. His name was Stig but I thought that he was Terry Denton or Andy Griffiths, he was enthusiastic and energetic. Some people met him and did random activities like answering like a baby or quizzes that you had to answer wrong. But at the start he wet Jamie for fun, and some people threw their stuff at him to be signed. Stig would always make people do a curtsy. But so far it was pretty good and I didn't get a bag like other people.

I rather liked the arrival of Stig when he visited. He was funny and entertaining, he came up with nicknames for some students but also made some kids do a funny quiz! I enjoyed laughing at him with my friends. What I liked is that he even gave some people an audio book! My favourite part was when he did the quiz with some people, when he made them do the curtsy and even sprayed water on someone when they were acting.

Yesterday Stig came to our school, he is the narrator for Andy Griffiths books and he was very hypo, he told one kid to push him down, so he did and he drenched the kid with a water book and called one girl a Martian because she had blue hair. And it was so funny he asked people to read a few questions and they had to do it differently, some had to do it in a baby voice and that kid said 'goo goo and ga', and my favourite, was when someone said it in burp and that was really funny. They said they would give 500 dollars, but at the end they said it was for books only, which no one has happy with. Then he read us a book and he gave away some books to people. I really liked it, he was so funny I loved it.

Yesterday morning, we had Stig come to School for the year 7 and 8's. When we sat down, I sat next to Bree and Lou Lou, and Stella was on the chair in front of us. We first had this lady tell us about things. I wasn't listening that much, but I did listen. The lady said if you read 10 books you can get a 500 dollar book gift card to spend on books. I think it was that much. But Stig did splash Jamie with water and stole Johnny's hat and he made it really funny.

I really enjoyed how funny Stig was. He was energetic and fun, he was also really cool. I enjoyed how everyone engaged in his talk and how they went and did funny things with him. I also loved how he gave people names. My favourite bit was when someone threw their sock at Stig. It was really funny, I also found it funny when he stole Jonny's bucket hat, it was just his facial expression. I really enjoyed how we made noises and how we got up. He also left us on cliff hangers at every sentence he made since you didn't know what happened next. I liked how he read the book to us, I also liked how his voice sounded funny with the different character traits, and how he also had a funny voice when he talked to someone different. There was also a time I found him funny when he sprayed Jamie with a water bottle and said he peed himself, I found that really funny.
I liked how everyone had a good opportunity to get up and do activities with him, thank you for coming into our school and making us smile on a hot day!

As 72 walked into the Auditorium we saw posters about the BSR (Big Summer Read) and as we sat down Laura spoke to us about the BSR and introduced the Rockstar - 'Stig Wemyss'. He thought it was a sloppy intro by the crowd, so he made us redo the introduction.
Miss Jones jumped up and kissed him and Jamie pushed him over, and Stig got so mad he sprayed water all over Jamie.
