Awards Ceremonies
The 2021 awards ceremonies which took place in our school auditorium were a great success and attendance by parents and students was great, despite the COVID restrictions which were in place at the time. Due to this success, we will be following this same format for 2022.
Our 2022 Celebration Assemblies, for the recognition and distribution of awards will be held in our school auditorium on Friday 16/12/22 at:
10:00am for the Junior School Awards (Year 7 – Year 9).
2:00pm for the Senior School Awards (Year 10 - Year 12).
Invitations to this event will be sent out over the coming week to inform students if they will be receiving an award and requesting they attend the ceremony. Parents and Carers wishing to attend will be asked to notify the office so that seats can be accounted for.

2023 Orientation Program & End of Year 2022 Programs
It always seems surreal at this time of the school year that despite the focus on the current learning and assessment program, we focus much of our energy and planning on the following years learning program- no wonder many of us forget what year it actually is! So to make sense of this, here is the breakdown and dates to take note of-
Promotions Program (Year 12 2023)
Upon reading this Newsletter article, students are mid-way through the 2023 Promotion program. The Promotions program offers students the opportunity to trial their 2023 learning schedule, meet with their new teachers, learn more about their new subjects and meet fellow classmates. This opportunity allows students to get a taste for their 2023 subjects and courses and prepare for the year of learning ahead. It has been evident thus far that students have appreciated and engaged in the Promotions program- there is certainly a feel of excitement and enthusiasm around the college. One thing can be sure, at the end of the Promotions program we can rest assured that all students will be as prepared as they possibly can be to commence 2023 successfully from day 1.
Some other features of the remaining weeks of Term 4 include-
Inclusion Transition Program
This program, commencing November 15, caters for our new Year 7 students joining the college in 2023. The students participating in this extended transition program have been selected in consultation with our Feeder schools and Newcomb SC.
Promotions Program (Year 8-11 2023)
This program, commencing November 28 and running for 1-week, allows the 2023 Year 8- 11 students to commence their 2023 courses with their teachers prior to the end of 2022. This opportunity allows students to get a taste for their 2023 subjects and courses and prepare for the year of learning ahead. The program prepares students, provides a chance to iron out any issues and thus commence 2023 when students return without further disruption.
Orientation Program (Year 7 2023)
This program day on December 13 welcomes our new Year 7 students for 2023. These excited students will have the opportunity to start to feel comfortable at Newcomb SC. Students will be provided lots of information, tour the school, meet some of their teachers, enjoy some activities and of course, meet their student peers. It is a great day, and for most, it is a day that sits forever in their memories and facilitates the start of many new life-long friendships.
End of Year Program (Year 7-10 2022)
This program, commencing December 5 for 2-weeks, will bring the 2022 school year to a close with fun and engaging activities, experiences and learning tasks. Students will participate in a series of focus days led by the Learning Area teams featuring group-work, challenges and excursions.
The feature days include- Respectful Relationships day, GROW Tech school immersion day, ‘Get active’ HAPE day, ‘Say what?’ English day, Adventure Park fun day, ‘What’s the solution?’- Maths/ Science day, Grand Designs Art & Technology day and a Positive Futures Framework feature day.
Parents and Carers are encouraged to check Compass to approve excursions and keep an eye for further details released through Compass on Friday 2/12/22.

SmArts Program
We were beyond honoured to have access to the amazing Grin and Tonic Theatre Troupe this week via the SmArts program.
The Artistic Director and acclaimed actor Jason Klarwein reminded us before the students performed, without the Arts, no one would have the confidence to perform
The Smith Family’s SmArts Enrichment program supports students’ engagement with schools by increasing their creative skills, self-confidence and knowledge of post school options.
Over 4 days, students engaged in a series of workshops led by theatre teaching artists Ellen and Jason from Grin and Tonic Theatre Troupe . The program targeted building of movement skills, explored devising techniques and showcased career pathways in performing arts.
Our students performed around 20 minutes of material based loosely on a character called Evon Tusk planning to relocate civilisation to Mars (due to climate catastrophe). It was SUPER funny and enjoyable and some videos will feature in our stories.
In no particular order we congratulate Ruby-Rose, Brad, Eliza, Nick, Scarlett, Jordan, Felix, Jacob, Chloe, Nathan, Tyle and Jayda.

On2Wheels
On Monday 21st November, the On2Wheels class headed to Melbourne for the last of the ride outs – The Capital City trail, a 30 km loop of the city.
It was “man vs weather”, as storm clouds and wind threatened to make their mark, but it was “man” eventually coming out on top; we experienced some light showers, and yes there was wind, but this didn’t detract from the day of riding.
We started our City loop at the Royal Melbourne Zoo, straight onto paths through the linear park across the top of Carlton extending to Richmond then Heidelberg (following the Merri Creek) then dropping down towards Prahran as it picks up the Yarra River.
Lunch stop was South Bank. The final stretch started with a meander along Southbank, past “Jeffs Shed”, then along the Docklands precinct before turning North and following the bike path under the Bolte bridge back to the Zoo. There would have been more photos, however a certain teacher (me) managed to lose his phone!! We needed to navigate a few detours because of flooding and some bridge works, but this didn’t stop us from experiencing a great day out. A number of students would have slept really well that night.

Casual Dress Day - Thursday 1st December
__________________________________________________________________________________________
Casual Dress day
There will be a casual dress day this Thursday (1/12) in support of the students who this year attended the Gnurad-Gundidj School for Student Leadership.
These students are asking for a gold coin donation, in support of their fundraising attempts for a school-improvement project. Every dollar raised will be used to improve our sports area nearest to Ervin Reserve, in particular the basketball courts.
Thank you for your support of this great initiative, and for the students involved with its organisation and planning.

Nobody's Fool Theatre Performances
When The Light Went Walking’ mirrors our world’s time of change and the political landscape surrounding the theme of ‘consent.’
Voices and experiences of young people are brought to the stage and provide a window of connection for others whilst highlighting the importance of finding ways to be strong, to grow and to move forward. It touches upon truth telling and the importance of connection to land, culture, and elders.
‘When The Light Went Walking’ is funny, sad, confronting, and empowering, but ultimately shows how everyone can find their own light, even when the world feels dark.
Performances will be presented at Cricket Studio, Ground Floor, 7 Rutland Street, Newtown on:
Thursday 1 December at 7:30pm
Friday 2 December at 7:30pm
Bookings essential – we’d love to see you there!
