As we enter the third week of the school year, it signals the start of many great events and activities. As I have noted in previous editions of the Newsletter, I could not be prouder of how students have responded to the ‘Good Order’ focus and thus how well our classroom learning environments ‘look, feel and sound’. The effective teaching and learning time is of a high standard and students are enjoying the challenges of the curriculum delivered and the learning activities undertaken in the classroom. Rest assured, the days of ‘chalk and talk’ are no longer in our schools. Classrooms are dynamic learning environments with the use of modern technology and hands on activities that ultimately lead to the most effective learning growth and outcomes for students. Schools are so well placed in today’s system to cater for all students, and offering a holistic education is something we at Newcomb Secondary College strive to achieve in each and every class. This week signals the start of many extra-curricular opportunities for students- excursions and whole school activities alike. On Thursday we will all enjoy the opportunity to participate in the Summer Sports Day Carnival at Kardinia Pool. This will be a fantastic day full of colour and activity. We look forward to sharing in the student’s successes on the day and celebrating them in upcoming Newsletter editions and college assemblies. May the best house win!
I should also note that today each student present at school had their school photo taken. Your student should return home today with details on how to access the photos taken by Arthur Reed. It was great to see such wonderful smiles! Please contact the Administration office if you have any questions or need some support.

Welcome Mr Riordan McDonald
Newcomb Secondary College’s atmosphere has been exceptionally welcoming during these first steps of my teaching career. We are already in the third week of Term 1, and I still feel the positive energy from both the schoolyard and staff. I feel grateful for the opportunity in joining the school community.
I grew up in Melbourne and travelled following the conclusion of my secondary studies. While living abroad, I found interest in various cultures and histories of the world. I studied History, Media, and Anthropology during my tertiary studies at Deakin University. I enjoy rock climbing and learning more about the world.
Teaching at Newcomb has been a great start to the year, I feel lucky to be in this profession. Students at Newcomb Secondary have the capacity to create positive choices and choose pathways that enable their respective skills and passions. I look forward to the rest of the school year and helping students achieve their potential.
Mr McDonald
