From the Principal Team
By Mr Scott McLeod
What a fantastic weekend. I trust that you all enjoyed some of the great Autumn weather!
An aspect of working in a school that I thoroughly enjoy, is the opportunity to see our students in the community. Over the course of the weekend, or outside of school hours, it is so pleasing to see Newcomb Secondary College students having success when participating in local sporting teams, working in cafés, retail shops, supermarkets or just simply crossing paths in town, the cinemas or out and about. These interactions are always positive, pleasant, and respectful, re-enforcing how great our students, rather, your young people are and how they contribute so well to society!
Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences
This week we look forward to our community participating yet again in considerable numbers for our Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences. The sessions will be held on Thursday (4pm-7pm) and Friday (9am-12pm) in the Language Centre and allow staff, students, and parents/carers to engage in conversations aimed at sharing learning feedback, celebrating success, identifying growth areas, and setting goals or commitments moving forward. Bookings can be made for the PTS Conferences on Compass (please contact the Administration Office if you are encountering challenges with the booking process). We can’t wait to see you there!
Please note that no regular learning program or classes will be conducted on Friday, rather, teaching staff will be made available to undertake their conferences throughout the day.
Student Safety
I encourage parents/carers and remind all students to ensure that you move to and from the school in a safe and orderly manner. Wearing a helmet is necessary to protect against injury and harm when riding a bicycle, skateboard, or scooter. Crossing the busy roads around Newcomb Secondary College should be done safely via the noted supported crossings, traffic lights and those walking to be collected by parents/carers need to use the footpaths and keep an eye out for cars, trucks, buses entering the road (such as near to Woolworths) and those on bicycles, scooters and skateboards sharing the footpaths with students. In a fast-paced day-and-age where distractions are a-plenty (ear pods/mobile phones etc.) it is even more important that students remain vigilant and focused for their own sake and the safety sake of others.
Have a great week!
Mr McLeod
