Making a Splash- NSC Swimming Sports
Firstly, I need to acknowledge and congratulate all students who participated in the Whole School Summer Sports Day at Kardinia Pool last Thursday. The day was a great success, in brilliant conditions and was so successful because of the numbers of students who participated in the swimming events, the novelty events as well as the students who took advantage of the opportunity to use the waterslide. The day was full of colour and peer support- it was great to see the House coloured attire and costumes and hearing the cheering of encouragement for fellow students. I can’t wait to celebrate the victorious house team and student age level champions at our next Whole School Assembly. Thanks to Mr Bell for his tireless work in planning and facilitating the day as well as for all the wonderful staff who supported the day in their assigned duties!
Welcoming our new Assistant Principal
I have the pleasure of announcing to the Newcomb Secondary College community that we have appointed Joshua Grabowski as our new Assistant Principal. Joshua joins Newcomb Secondary College from Geelong High School and before that at Parkville College. Joshua is a highly regarded educational leader who forms strong relationships with those who he impacts. I have no doubt that Joshua will be an amazing asset to the college and will be well-received by the entire college community. Joshua will transition to Newcomb Secondary College over the remainder of Term 1 before commencing full-time from the start of Term 2. We, like Joshua himself, look forward to starting this exciting journey together very soon- he can’t wait to meet you all.
School Council AGM + Elections
In March we will hold our School Council Annual General Meeting (AGM). As part of the AGM, we determine the composition of the 2024 School Council, and thus in the coming days nominations will open for community members to join the council. Each tenure is for 2-years and can come in the form of- Parent, Student, Staff or Community representative. Should the nominations exceed the available places on council, we will conduct an election. IT would be great if you consider nominating for School Council- it is a great way to learn more about the college operations and programs and a fantastic way to contribute to making Newcomb Secondary College the best possible school that it can be.
Starting Right Conferences- Year 12
On Monday we welcomed our community into the college to discuss the learning growth and progress of our Year 12 students. The Year 12 Parent/ Student/ Teacher conferences were a great opportunity for students and their parents/ guardians to be informed of progress and to determine suitable goals, supports and targets to ensure success in their courses and studies. It was great to see so many of you there.
Safe Travel to and from School
Finally, we encourage all our students who travel to-and-from school to do so in a safe and responsible manner. If you ride a bike to and from school, make sure you wear a helmet and bring a lock to secure your bike. If you are on a scooter or skateboard, you too should wear appropriate safety gear. For those of you who like to listen to music via headphones when travelling to and from school, make sure you are especially aware of vehicles around you- you may not always hear them coming over the volume of music in your ears.
Have a great week!
Regards,
Mr McLeod
