Course Counselling
Do you remember what you dreamt of one day doing for a job when at Secondary College? Most people I ask aspired to work in the Emergency services, in Health Care or Education. Some said that they wanted to be Professional Athletes, AFL footballers or play cricket for Australia. Others simply wanted to follow in their family members footsteps or family legacy. I wonder how many actually landed in that career. I can certainly say that I did. So, what is the relevance of this introduction you say?
Well, at the time of writing this newsletter article, students at Newcomb Secondary College have started undertaking their course counselling- a process aimed at supporting students in determining their interests and aspirations and aligning them with appropriate subjects and learning programs.
Course counselling information, sharing and decision making is an extremely important process in the educational journey, and thus early life journey, of any young person and we encourage such discussions to involve not only the student and the school, but the parent(s), carer(s) or guardian(s) of the students as well. The process is an exciting one that offers students clarity and guidance. We look forward to the discussions and eventual outcomes for all involved.
Positive Learning Qualities
Would you believe that next week is the mid-point of Term 3? How time flies! As you are now becoming familiar with, you will be in receipt of the first cycle of the Semester 2 Positive Learning Qualities (PLQ) on Compass. It should be noted that if your student has commenced a new subject, then the PLQ graph will have only one bar, whilst a whole year subject will reflect the latest four bars on the graph to visibly assist with the identification of any trends.
School Uniform
Just a quick note to assist us with student’s presentation when leaving your homes in the morning. For many of you this is not an issue as your young person is able to attend school dressed in full and correct uniform, However, for those students who wish to challenge the college uniform policy and arrive dressed in non-uniform items, it would be great if such items were left at home from the outset. We are happy to support students who have particular issues with accessing the College uniform on a case-by-case basis, however it must be noted that all others have no-excuse not to be dressed in full College uniform each and every day.
Have a great week!
