From the Principal Team
By Mr Scott McLeod
As we embark on the second half of Term 2, we reflect this week as Feedback Week for students and carers.
At our Whole School Assembly on Monday, we recognised that there are only 23 days of school remaining in Term 2. With so much to pack in before we enter the mid-year break, both in the classroom and as extra-curricular activities and experiences, it is important for students and their carers to ensure that they remain organised and focussed on what is required to maximise growth and outcomes.
That may mean attending every day, maximising learning in the classroom by being focussed, ensuring due date deadlines are met for set work and that communication with the teachers remain positive and open to stay informed.
Health and Wellbeing
At our Whole School Assembly on Monday, health and wellness was discussed. As we enter the months of the year where illness (the common cold, the flu and COVID) prevails, it is important that we continue to remain vigilant with hygiene practices at school and stay home if unwell.
The health and wellness of us all is a collective responsibility. No-one enjoys being sick or feeling unwell, and time away from school is proven to negatively impact learning growth. Let us aim to support each other in making Newcomb Secondary College the healthiest environment it can be!
Adventure Year 7 Camp
Lastly, I would like to wish our Year 7 students all the very best on their 3-day camp experience at Anglesea later this week. Year 7 camp is a wonderful experience for students and one that they will remember for the rest of their lives. I look forward to visiting the camp on Thursday and sharing in all the fun!
Have a great week!

Year 7 Adventure Camp in Anglesea Awaits!
By Ms Hunt
We are thrilled to announce that the highly anticipated Year 7 Adventure Camp in Anglesea is this week.
Prepare yourselves for an incredible experience filled with thrilling activities, new friendships, and unforgettable memories.
This year’s camp has been meticulously designed to provide our Year 7 students with an opportunity to have a blast, foster stronger bonds with their peers and step out of their comfort zones.
The motto of the camp, ‘Challenge by Choice,’ will empower our students to engage in activities that align with their comfort levels and personal interests.
We are confident that this camp will be an unforgettable experience for all of our students. We encourage them to embrace the challenges, work together as a team, and display their incredible resilience and perseverance. Each and every one of them should be immensely proud of themselves for seizing the opportunity and making the most of it.
We cant wait to see the smiles of their faces as they embark on this incredible journey. Rest assured, our Year 7 Adventure camp will be an experience they will cherish for a lifetime.
Please ensure that student medications are brought to the office by Tuesday afternoon.

Brisbane Ranges Outdoor Ed Camp
Students from the Outdoor Ed class completed a hiking camp through the Brisbane Ranges. Over the course of three days we completed 42km through all sorts of terrain from rocky ground to grass. At the end of all of the days, we enjoyed a great fire with roasted marshmallows and some weird and funny conversations.
During the course of the camp, we socialized with people we wouldn’t normally socialize with and created some strong friendships. Students and staff enjoyed some fantastic scenery through the mountains and valley. After a long day it was nice to have some delicious food. Some of the things people ate were, macaroni and cheese, carbonara and butter chicken.

Attendance
By Ms Demopoulos
Under the Victorian Attendance Legislation, all Victorian government schools must contact parents/carers as soon as practicable on the same day of an unexplained student absence.
The same-day notification requirement supports the safety and wellbeing of all students. Schools need to know when and why a child is absent and parents/carers need to know if their child is not at school.
Please notify the school as soon as possible on the same day of an absence, if your student is late or if they need to leave early, by either phoning the school or entering an Attendance Note on your student’s Compass.
We recognise that family life is demanding and busy, and we believe it is essential that the school and family work together in partnership to ensure we achieve the best outcomes for your child. If you have any questions or concerns about attendance, refusal, using Compass or absences, please contact the school on 5248 1400 or email to ensure we can support you and your student.
At Newcomb Secondary College we strive for high attendance to maximise student learning, and behavioural, cognitive and emotional engagement for all students, and we endeavour to work with and support all families in our community.

SLAM
By Ms Stoneley
Thank you to everyone who bought Easter raffle tickets last term and helped SLAM to raise $178 dollars for Ocean Mind.
This term SLAM is helping with lots of events and will be assisting with the Wellbeing Day, a day where we will have no classes but will have different activities run throughout the day.
Some of the activities are kickboxing and Mindfulness. At the end of the day (Period 5, 6), there will be a colour run, so make sure you wear a white shirt and old clothes so you can get them colourful.
We are also planning a whole school initiative to collect things to donate or collect things like bread tags and bottle caps so we can make something out of them. If we were to collect donations, we are thinking about collecting blankets for GAWS or canned food to give to food shelters.
