YEAR 7 Beach Day
By Mr Relouw
Our Year 7 Beach Day's were held at Ocean Grove. The Beach Day was graced with some unpredictable weather patterns including wind, showers and thankfully, sunshine. Unfortunately, we were also met with thunderstorms which caused us to postpone one of the days, however we persevered and completed it in the following week.
The day was designed for our Year 7 students to have fun, get to know each other a little better and try something new. The activities focused on resilience, team building and fun with our peers and school staff. The activities on offer were surfing, beach games, and a BBQ lunch.
While we weren’t quite at the Rip Curl Pro, Mr Amer, Mr Goward, Miss Hill, and some of our friends from Deakin University were the expert instructors giving the kids the confidence to venture out into the surf. We are happy to announce that among the Year 7 cohort we had some students who were able to stand up all the way to the shore. Well done, and we may yet see some of you at the Rip Curl Pro with the skill on display.
Mr Unmack’s Great Beach Games were a great success, despite the tide creeping in on us and washing away a vast majority of our playing field (luckily none of the equipment). Students participated in a variety of activities which involved Jenga, tennis ball catapult, treasure hunt for letters to create an unknown word and a ‘hole in my bucket’ activity, along with several other fun challenges. All of these activities focussed on respect, team-work and critical thinking.
All students had a great time with the staff involved, and we thank them for making this opportunity possible for our students. They were treated with food and beverages, including snags that were cooked to perfection.
