Bike Tour 2021 – Tour de Bellarine
We have been so fortunate to have been able to run another successful Bike Tour event. We had 48 students (11 first timers), 14 staff (2 first timers), about 120km of riding, and 4 seasons every day!
This Tour had a little bit of everything. We had heat, then cold, then rain, then hail stones, then a stinging downpour .... and that was just by mid-afternoon on the first day.
The riding was good - some hills, some bike tracks, some magnificent coastal scenery, some gravel, a few bingles, none with traffic, and thankfully it didn’t slow these students down at all.
Our fitness wasn't too good, but we knew this would be the case! Bu Millis described a lot of "shade" being thrown over us at certain times as again students (and a couple of staff) dealt with the discomfort of being in the saddle for 3 days.
We stayed at 2 beautiful locations - the highlight being 30 metres from the water’s edge at St Leonards - just magnificent. Our students conducted themselves responsibly within these communities for the short time we were there.
The food was magnificent! Thanks Ms Reed, Ms Hill and the helpers that pre-prepared our 'Uber eats', and the slices were spectacular! - Thank you also to families!
We also juggled basketball games, hair appointments, dental work and a wedding. Not our usual tour! Then when it was all done, it was really nice to again have students happy and safe at home, showing appreciation for being able to have a tour this year, and thanking the staff who rode with them.
Here's to next year.
Mr Unmack - on behalf of all the staff involved with Bike tour.
