Industry Tour - Barwon Timber
Future VCE-VM (Vocational Major) students were invited to participate in an Industry tour of Barwon Timber. It was fascinating!
Barwon Timber is a local, family owned and operated building supply business. It encompasses a number of different key areas – from hardware retail to supply of flooring and doors, from cutting timber and making machine blades at a local mill, to managing a gigantic warehouse of materials to supply builders.
For our students who are looking towards their senior school certificates and pathways, it was incredible for them to witness and understand that there is such opportunity in this region, and that a company such as Barwon Timber could provide work place links in diverse areas, such as retail, business administration, machining and warehousing. For the post 18s, there is even transport and delivery!
Doing a tour such as this can be eye opening in terms of opportunity. It can allow for community connections which then encourages students to feel a sense of confidence and maturity as they are making decisions for the future. It can inspire or foster direction for our students considering where they would like to undertake work placement. It can lead to further pathways beyond NSC.
Many thanks to Barwon Timber – our guides Ron, Rhys, Rob, Corey and especially to Gabby for co-ordinating the tour and welcoming our group into the company, and providing such an informative tour. You have definitely been inspirational.

9/10 Outdoor Ed Surfing
On Wednesday 23rd of November 9/10 Outdoor Ed made their way to Lorne for surfing due to the poor conditions and water quality at our local beaches.
Students were able to apply their newly learnt surfing theory on equipment, beach safety and stand up technique into practice surfing the Lorne’s main surfing break.
Big thanks to Mr Amer for helping out with the day.

Nobody's Fool Theatre Performance
Last Friday 2nd December, signaled the end of two busy weeks of touring ‘When the light went walking’ by the Nobody’s Fool Theatre students.
What a fabulous experience for all involved, students and audience alike. We performed four shows for students and the community in Wangaratta, including a highlight at the Moyhu Soldiers Memorial Hall.
We are also grateful for such gracious audiences last week from Newcomb Secondary College, Oberon High School and the wider Geelong community.
Our valiant NFT students have displayed incredible perseverance and supported each other beautifully over the past few weeks, I am so proud of each of them.
