From the Principal Team
Who would have thought we are now four weeks into the school year!
Pleasingly, it has been a great start to the school year. Students have been excited to be back and the school has a sense of calm about it following the disruption of back and forth throughout the last two years. The learning in classroom has been evident and it is great to see students having the opportunity to experience excursions that compliment their understanding of educational relevance in the world.
Last week we made a splash at Kardinia Pool at our annual Swimming Sports carnival. After two years of cancellations, this provided students with the opportunity to compete at the swimming carnival, or equally participate in the novelty events for House points. It was simply fantastic! Well done to all involved!
This week, we take to the track at Landy Field for the annual Athletics. Again, we are looking forward to a great day, full of athleticism, competition and participation! May the best House team win!
If your student missed the school photos last week, they will have an opportunity to have their photo taken at the school photo ‘catch-up day’ on Thursday March 3. We will post a reminder closer to the day on Compass with all the details. For those students who had their photo taken last week, you are able to purchase the photo’s from Arthur Reed via their online purchase system. Each student was provided with a flyer that outlined how to make the online purchase. Should you require support in doing this, we suggest contacting Arthur Reed directly.

If an election is necessary, I will distribute the appropriate documentation to parents and the ballots will close on Tuesday 8th March, 2022 at 4.00pm.
The parents whose time on Council are eligible for nomination, or their time on Council has expired are:

The student whose time on Council has expired is:

Of course, nominations are able to be received from any parents and students and we would encourage parents and students to consider being part of the College Council.
The Department of Education and Training members whose time on Council are eligible for nomination, or their time has expired are:
• Ryan Owens (eligible for nomination)
• Philip Walker (eligible for nomination)
The Newcomb Secondary College Council can also co-opt four people into the Community Members category of Council with the College Student Leaders traditionally filling some of these positions.
Other information concerning the College Council elections can be found in this newsletter. Nomination forms can be obtained from the General Office, or ring the office and a form can be sent home.
Therefore, the February meeting of the College Council (this week) will be the last of the present Council and the Thursday 17th March meeting will be the first of the new College Council.
We would like to thank our retiring members for their contribution to Council.

Annual Swimming Carnival
The annual house swimming carnival was conducted at Kardina Pool on Thursday the 17th of February. We operated under different conditions than usual, with new Covid-normal strategies to keep everyone safe, including the introduction of our Covid Marshalls. A big thank you to Kea, Chrystal and Jo for helping to keep us all safe!
Students relished the lovely weather and mild temperatures. House captains did a fantastic job keeping the enthusiasm high. They also lead from the front by getting involved in as many activities as they could.
There were some terrific efforts from competitors on the day, with our novelty events the Raft race, Peg race and Lilo race our most popular. A special mention to Cooper Rowbottom who was extremely helpful on the day, delivering food and drinks to all of our staff.
An additional big thank-you to all the teachers who helped packed the gear on Wednesday evening; including Mr George & Mr Horsted. There were also many helpers that helped early to help set up the equipment in the morning. This allowed us to transition straight to activities once the students arrived
It was a fantastic day held by all. Stay tuned, results will be out soon!
Go Seahorses!

"Thank you for making me feel so welcome at Newcomb Secondary College. The college has a real positive energy and I feel grateful joining the school community.
I grew up in Melbourne and lived in the UK for about 15 years. I studied science at The University of Melbourne and Psychology & Education at The University of Cambridge. I enjoy the outdoors, exercise, and learning more about the world.
I feel lucky to be a teacher. The students at Newcomb Secondary College have so much potential. I am looking forward to the school year and helping students achieve their best."
